[Technical Column] Issue 13: Air Conditioning Systems and Challenges of Electric Vehicles
Insufficient heating source! This problem will become more pronounced when fully switching to electric vehicles!
In this column, we will discuss the air conditioning methods and challenges of electric vehicles. As shown in the diagram of the refrigeration cycle, the air that exchanges heat with the refrigerant in the evaporator becomes cold air, which is used for air conditioning in the summer. However, to achieve the preferred temperature for the occupants, it is necessary to mix this with warm air generated by the heater core. The hot water entering the heater core is the cooling water from the radiator. In recent years, the popularity of hybrid vehicles has led to a shortage of this heating source. This is due to the reduced heat generation from the engine, as it operates intermittently. Especially in winter, the lack of heating has led to practical methods of supplementation, such as using electric heaters (PTC heaters). When fully transitioning to electric vehicles, this issue will become even more pronounced. *For more detailed information about the column, please refer to the related links.
